Pellissippi Community College

Pellissippi State Community College is a two year community college located in Knoxville, Tennessee. This school offers a variety of educational opportunities for diverse students who have several career interests and aspirations. Students can receive either a technical associates degree or institutional certificates upon completion of courses. Pellissippi State Community College is a school that also prepares students who want to transfer to four year universities to further pursue their education.

This community college also provides an online course for students. Any person who has a computer can take online courses at Pellissippi State. The classes are a combination of internet learning and also classroom teaching. Some of the other courses can also be taught with tapes or audio.
The faculty and staff of Pellissippi State believe that it is extremely important to have a positive first-year experience. They believe that involving themselves with first-year students will promote growth and along with direction that will reflect positively in a students future. The faculty and staff will help first-year students transition to being on a college campus to also providing expert and quality instruction. They will also provide positive mentor and student relationships along with a range of tasks and activities for the students to enhance personal growth.

For Pellissippi State the standard academic year consists of two terms each with fifteen weeks. One credit is equal to a semester hour. For students who want to apply, are seeking a degee and under the age of 21, they will need to submit their official high school transcripts and also official college transcripts if available. They will also need to meet with an advisor as well. Non-degree students or those working for an institution certificate only need to submit their official high school transcript or GED exam results.

Both degree-seeking and non degree-seeking students will have to submit their SAT or ACT results. These results must not be more than three years old. Students are over the age of 21 must take a Confirmation exam provided by Pellissippi if they have never taken a college math or English course. This exam however, must be taken at the campus in Knoxville. Upon completion of courses, students can earn one of the following degrees: Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.), Associate of Science in Teaching (A.S.T.), or Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.T.).

International students are also welcomed to apply to Pellissippi State. They must demonstrate that they are proficient in English. There are a few ways to prove this. Students can present a United States high school diploma or official transcripts. They may also complete a Test of English as a Foreign Language. In order to pass they must score at least a 450 on the written and 113 for the computerized version. There is also the Michigan Test which is given by the English Department at Pellissippi State. This test must be taken at the campus in Knoxville.

There are several departments in this community college. Some, but not all departments include: Liberal Arts, Mathematics, Business and Computer Technology, English, Education, Computer Accounting, Hospitality, Civil Engineering, Paralegal Studies, Media Technologies, Management, Marketing, and Computer Science and Information Technology.

Financial Aid is available for students who require it. Those who are interested or need financial aid should file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. This process should be completed before a student applies or before they enroll. There are also several scholarships that can be presented to students who qualify.

Pellissippi State also offers a fitness outlet. They offer a special program, the Fit for Life program which is a twelve week fitness regiment that is tailored to each student. Despite what goal the student wants this program is free of charge. There are also other sports available such as flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, and pool.
